In the PC industry, Microsoft and Apple have obvious advantages in the field of smart phones, Google’s Android and Apple’s iPhone OS prevailed.

cheap gucci shoesThe failure of Kin only phone company one of the many challenges faced, the greater problem is Microsoft’s rival in the smart phone has become a rival in the PC on. Microsoft is worried about Android and Apple’s software will eventually become more intelligent device’s operating system, and these new smart devices are beginning to affect the traditional PC sales. Apple has started most of their energy into the iPhone and iPad.

cheap gucci bags
But Microsoft is not the enemy of Apple, but Google and Android, as well as those using Android mobile phone system manufacturers. For example, Motorola Droid X does not produce sufficient evidence of a high-end system to run Android smartphone.

This does not mean the demise of Microsoft, after all, notebooks and servers exist for a long time, but this definitely means that the future of personal computing, Microsoft is not dominating the world GUCCI CLASSIC
>.

Here’s the deal…I’ve completed ‘The Book’ and am now editing it, I’ve been redoing the school library and will soon begin building the Community Library. Not from the ground up, the building is there but it will have to be painted and redesigned. Everything in Thailand needs to be painted! Then we need to get books, more books and even more books. Do you know how expensive books are? Of course you do , you’re all Americans. Money is always the biggest challenge and what we are going to do is sell, yes, I said SELL the book. All proceeds will go directly to the library fund after paying off my credit card for the printing of the books!!!!! Well, I’m only half joking. The local government has been very impressed with it and have committed 80,000 baht to its printing cost. The problem is that it will cost approximately 110,000

Roy
This is me.July 5th, my last night in Bangkok before a month of work & adventure in Europe. My first stop is Geneva, Switzerland. More tiring than feeling of excitement at this point with the preparation for the “work” part that seems endless… The adventure part will soon enough get going, I hope. Cannot wait for the first backpacking experience in continental Europe… The projected destinations now are Geneva, Bern, Basel (Federer’s big fan), Munich, Nuremberg, Prague, Salzburg, Innsbruck, and then Zurich… Will see how the plan turns out. The issue now to contemplate is the balance between time and coverage, comfort and budget, true adventure at the unknown and risk of getting really lost…

I welcome any travel tips & suggestions, even a travel companion or two.

Cheers.

At Sunset
A fibreglass making a sharp turn on the placid water by the main jetty of Persona Lake Resort. ( Lake Bera )
It was much more mysterious than…Lake Placid. Heck…it’s not even in the listed places of Travelblog.

You probably have seen the movie about the T-Rex size crocodile that went rogue, harvesting human mucking around the lake instead of its staple bovine diet, hand fed by its owner, a white hair grandma living by the lake. Unlike the deceptive heavenly temperate atmosphere with pine trees lined azure lake in that movie, is medievally quiet with a foreboding ambiance of something strange or monstrous lurking in its shadowy, murky waters. So much so,even when out on the lake, the marine officer forbids anyone from running their fingers in the water while the boat is moving. It would entice some big fishes into thinking its lunch time for a quick bite. A resort staff confiding of seeing a fish the size of a Volkswagen in the water and showing me a photo of another local standing beside a branch tethered fish almost as big as he was, pretty much keeps one hands within the boat!

It’s unlike the man made artificial or cosmetic lake adorning on some golf courses or a botanical precinct

Karaoke is pure Hell. And not what you think at all. There is a room, full of drunk Chinese guys – the room is about the size of a semi-detached Scottish council house, with the internal walls knocked out. It has the feel of an expensive doctor’s waiting room. The lighting is rather 1970s, porn movie – not that you have ever seen one – and there will two TV screens, one generating the Karaoke and another showing some sporting event, usually American dirt-track horse racing, cage-fighting or, recently, figure skating. Snacks lie ignored on the table. Someone in the room is paying for the event, but it is never clear who. Paying for the room, drinks and snacks. And yes, these guys sing. One of them will not be completely unbearably awful, but he will still be ear-splittingly, embarrassing, woeful. All the rest will be beyond my powers of lexical derision.

Karaoke means ‘empty orchestra’. I think most people know that. Kara is empty: karate, empty hand. To some extent, I am glad that they don’t leave it empty, because the backing tracks really are awful. More 1970’s porn. The background video is often 1970’s porn too, without the actual porn. Men who look a bit like Tom Selleck or James Brolin, often in flowery shirts open to the waist, squiring women in paisley dresses and turquoise eye-shadow along rocky shores or around the kind of English country mansions most commonly found in suburbs of Santa Barbara. Maybe 1970s porn visionaries foresaw the whole karaoke thing and made these videos before getting down to the real business, because otherwise I have no idea where they came from.

Almost all Chinese songs are about the same thing: the pain of separation from the object of desire and the hopelessness of waves breaking on the shore. They sing of the happy ending which will surely come after much suffering, but which never actually makes it into the song. The whole song focuses on the suffering alone (and the breaking of the waves / falling of the leaves / drying of the paint) and it is not just the singer who suffers. Far from it. Suffering in lonely silence is not the Karaoke way.

There is one more type Chinese karaoke song:

We have known each other since we were in nappies,
I saw your little pee-pee when we were only three-ee.
Now we are great big grown-ups
Surprise, surprise, we are in love!
So happy are we
We dance and hit each other with balloons
We play on swings and slides together.

This song has no element of suffering at all: no misunderstanding, no forbidden liaisons, no parental strife. The video behind verse three may contain a vague empty sighing feeling while working in a high tech biochemical lab, perhaps in Cambridge or MIT. The suffering is all in the ear of the beholder.

All songs that are not Chinese will be The BeeGees (Words), Glen Mediros (Oceans Apart) and “I’ve Never Been to Me”, which was by that woman off Crossroads, or maybe Coronation Street, Hey Jude () at the end of the night, or translations of the previously highlighted Chinese misery chords. You will not recognize them, nor, unless you look at the screen, will you suspect they are being conducted in English.

Upon my arrival, someone will usually sing one of these Chinglish songs ‘in my honour’, to welcome me. There are few things I enjoy more than a fat millionaire, with immaculately boot-blacked hair and Harry Palmer glasses honoring me in ballad form, of how our suffering must go on till the moss grows thick on my grandfather’s gravestone, and I come home again to Wales, or some such. Conceivably these songs may be transported, translated and retranslated, Victorian music-hall, ‘Scottish’ ‘folk’ songs: marching home again through the bonny purple bamboo grove, after the famine, after the war, the English/Japanese genocide and after the tide comes in. Quality never goes out of style.

Now, I don’t want anyone to get the impression that karaoke is about singing. Karaoke is about singing in the same way as cinema is about pop-corn. Karaoke is about the relief of stress, or ‘sex’ as it is known in the West. These caterwauling entrepreneurs are not alone in the room. There will be numerous girls, in various states of beauty, decay, drunkenness, undress, disease and tune. The only thing these girls will really have in common is imperfection of pitch and a preference for daytime TV and whisky over factory work…

A belated Happy 4th to you all! I didn’t even dawn on me that it was the 4th of July until Mom wrote about her beloved fireworks. (I’m so glad you got to enjoy Mom! Miss you!! xoxo)

To us Bangkok-ians (clearly a made up word , yesterday (the 4th) was like any other day, though the Pevzner peeps still reaped the benefits because EP is off today in honor of the holiday. Wahoo! Another day with both of my boys, which means a short week w/o EP. Very exciting.

I have to say, while I titled today’s entry as disconnected, I feel even more connected to EP since we have arrived. I attribute our connection to a variety of factors, i.e. embarking on an unfamiliar journey together with our most delicious baby boy, learning bits and pieces of Thai culture together, talking as we eat scrumptious Thai food in our hotel room every night for dinner while the little fat man slept in the den area, etc. I cannot remember when EP and I spent so much UNINTERRUPTED time talking. . though as I write this my mind drifts back to our honeymoon. Ahh. . what beautiful memories. Since then though, even when we are together at home, our time is divided between daily TO-DOs, making dinner, cleaning up, (all of which we clearly don’t have to do here!), work obligations (distant memory for me!). . and did I mention television? Brace yourselves dad and EP if you’re reading this, what a gift it is to be away from television! After 9 days including travel that have been television free (aside from EP’s World Cup watching, which is
